The end of an era!

Today drew to a close 6th Class' time here in St Eunan's. It was a day of mixed emotions as we reminisced on memories from their time here over the past 8 years and spoke about their hopes for secondary school.

As a staff we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all the very best in your new venture in the AVS. We would also like to thank their parents for their dedication to school activities over the years.

You are always welcome back here for a visit!

The music was blaring from early this morning as we kicked off with Rinka dance class hosted by Sarah Gillespie. We then had the luxury of 3 GAA coaches sharing their expertise and showing the children new skills- Brian Roper, Hugh Mc Fadden and Dougie Corbett.

After lunch we welcomed parents Karina Wasson and Mark Sweeney to our basketball courts. We are so grateful to them for taking the time to coach our children.

Thanks everyone and looking forward to our tour tomorrow!

What a start to Active School's Week. We had a very successful and enjoyable Sport's Day with a mix of traditional races and some novelty races such as  balloon races. Then it was onto our fruit tasting where all the children got to sample an array of fruit-from mango to avocado there was huge variety!

Thanks to everyone who helped out and also to the parent's who attended Sport's Day.

What a special day we had in the Drumholm parish. This morning two of our new students received the Sacraments of Baptism and the Eucharist in St Brigid's Church. Congratulations to the two boys - it was a very special day for them and for their families.

It was also an occasion to honour our 6th class pupils and of course Ava Fehilly-Harrington RIP.  The children were all fantastic in their roles, the choir sounded amazing and the children were all so well behaved in the chapel.

They all got a little treat afterwards in the Community Centre thanks to the Parents Association and the cherry on the cake was the arrival of the ice-cream van!  Thanks very much to Laura Kilpatrick who entered and won the competition for free ice-creams for the entire school, they all loved it.

Thanks very much to Fr Gavigan and all the staff here in the school for organising the beautiful Mass today.

Some pictures from the second round of our Cumann na mBunscol blitz today. It was really enjoyable with all children getting the opportunity to represent our school. They did the school really proud. Unfortunately a narrow victory of just 1 point meant that we failed to progress to the next round. Well done to winners St Naul's NS and thanks to Naomh Bríd for the use of the facilities.

What a St. Patrick's Weekend for our school!!!

We just cannot believe that our school was the outright winner of the Donegal Town St Patrick's Day Parade. We, as a staff were truly blown away and so impressed when we saw the amazing float which was built to perfection to represent our school. The attention to detail was beyond all our expectations and it's no surprise that the whole community is commenting on it. The effort that each and every child and parent made for the wonderful costumes was incredible. The colour and energy combined made a huge impression on all the spectators and judges.

I don't want to name or single out any person as I know it was a huge team effort to bring it all together, but I would like to thank most sincerely each and every person who helped out in any way over the past few weeks to make our parade entry one of the best I've ever seen. We were so proud and honoured to be part of the parade and represent our school.

The parade entry is all about the children and there's no doubt they really enjoyed the experience. It was just the icing on the cake that we came home with the cup!!!

All the children are on a high today following their big win and they were absolutely delighted to hear that they'll have no homework next week. Of course that's a little reward for all you hard-working parents too!!!!

Congratulations to everyone involved on a job very well done, we really appreciate the trojan work that was put in.

Bhí am ar dóigh againn ag ceiliúradh Seachtain na Gaeilge!

Rinne muid ealaín deas, chan muid amhráin, d’fheach muid ar scannán maith agus d’imir muid cluichí. Bhí spórt agus spraoi ag meascadh le páistí eile ó ranganna eile.

Bainigí sult as an deireadh seachtaine fada!

13th March 2023

Rinne na páistí i rang 3 & 4 an drama” Plúirín Sneachta” don scoil inniu. Bhí siad ar fheabhas ar fad.

As part of our 6th Green School flag, Global Citizenship Litter and Waste we had our Day of Action. To begin the whole school headed outside for a clean up of the school grounds. It was surprising to see how much litter had accumulated especially close to the roadside.
Afterwards 3rd - 6th Class walked to the Bryson Recycling Centre  where they were given a guided tour of the facility. It was amazing to learn how much can be recycled from garden waste to paint, bikes, electrical equipment and much more. Afterwards the classes enjoyed a hot cup of tea back at school!
At 12:30 the Cycle Right company arrived to our doors for Road Safety bike training. This was the last of a 4 session course and the children got the opportunity to put their safety skills into action as they headed out onto the road for a cycle around Laghey village.
Overall a hugely enjoyable action packed day at St Eunan's NS, Laghey!

From footballers to superheroes, Harry Potter characters to Jungle Book animals we had it all! Well done to all of our parents and children for putting a huge effort into making our World Book Day so much fun.

While in school the children enjoyed talking about their costume, buddy reading with the Infants and DEAR time (Drop Everything and Read). Such a fun event and the children can use their free World Book Day vouchers in Four Masters bookshop or in Sprint Education Centre.

The children in 1st and 2nd class had a fun afternoon yesterday celebrating Roald Dahl day. We learned a lot about his life, an interesting fact we learned was that Roald used to get chocolate to try from the Cadbury’s Factory near his school! So we decided to listen to some of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (which is based on the memories of his school days) and coloured in a quote from the book! Safe to say we all wanted chocolate after it!
