Green SCHOOLS flag

Our school has been actively involved in the Green Schools programme for over thirteen years. This initiative encourages pupils to take responsibility for the environment and develop a greater awareness of sustainability in their daily lives. Students participate in a range of activities such as recycling projects, environmental audits, awareness campaigns, and nature walks around Donegal Town and the local village, helping them to connect learning with their local surroundings.

The school has achieved significant success through the programme over the past 10 years, earning its fifth Green Flag for Biodiversity. This was celebrated through the creation of a school garden and sensory area, which provides a peaceful space for learning, reflection, and supporting local wildlife. These areas are also used as an outdoor learning resource, helping pupils to study plants, insects, and ecosystems in a hands-on way.

Previous Green Flags were awarded for Litter and Waste, Energy, Water, Travel, and Global Citizenship (Litter and Waste). Each theme has helped the school build strong environmental habits, reduce its ecological footprint, and promote sustainable living throughout the school community.
